Gift Horse

Album: Mountain of Youth
By Tarryn Feldman

This band makes me want to crack open a can of beer and hang out with the friends I grew up with. Gift Horse has a sophisticated grunge feel with a charming twist. Each track on their newest album "Mountain of Youth" has a different sound. The lead singer has a more gentle sound which compliments the harsher sleazy instrumental to create a great band. The song "Missionaries" reminds me of early Weezer and its very refreshing for a band to stay true to rock and not take it down the trendy emo sell-out path. Gift Horse is like the bad ass kid in high school that drives a classic old car, wears a leather jacket, and smokes cigarettes. Totally bad ass! I had the pleasure of watching Gift Horse live at The Basement in Nashville during Next Big Nashville. They bring a humble energy to the stage and its a dead give-a-way that they love to make music. I would see them again.
